GL: Tell us about your business.
Shashi: We are manufacturers of garments. We started in 1989. Our USP is fabric quality and design, and for the past few years we have been concentrating on the manufacturing of sustainable clothing which is the need globally to keep the environment clean and friendly. We employ about 500-1000 people and have a state-of-the-art 65,000 sq ft production unit in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
GL: When did you start exporting your products?
Shashi: I started exporting in 1989. Our growth strategy is to create new and innovative designs from normal fabrics. We maintain international standards by employing the right type of people and by putting in the best of our efforts. We have been honoured with two National Awards from the President of India in 1992 and 1994.
GL: How do you identify products and markets for your exports?
Shashi: Ladies always want something new for all occasions and this helped me in identifying products. We identified export markets through participation in international fairs and exhibitions. We currently export to the US, Spain, Italy, Germany, Canada and Sweden among other countries.
GL: Did you face any challenges in your export operations?
Shashi: Being a teacher by profession with no textile background, the journey was tough at first but through my hard work and sincere efforts I was able to establish my business successfully. Logistics was never a problem for us, but we faced challenges with our banking requirements, pricing of products and few other operations related to exports.
GL: What is your big business dream?
Shashi: Though our business goals have been met, my ultimate ambition is to introduce my own brand in the market.
GL: What is your message to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Shashi: Hard work, sincerity and honesty is the essence of being a successful entrepreneur.
